HOW DOES ETHICS PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN  WORKPLACE?


What  is workplace ethics?

Workplace ethics is nothing but certain rules and regulations that should be carried out in business house by the employers and employees to maintain a professional environment and to build a better relationship among the employers,employees and everyone else who are involved in that business.The most crucial component of workplace ethics is the doing the right thing at right time and maintaining the integrity.In order to survive in a company with many other people one should know the thin line of demarcation of ethical and unethical actions and  should not cross the line or  the limit. 

One of the most common unethical behavior in the corporate world is the violation of the policy of social networks and misuse of the company time. According to Forbes, around two third of workers visit non work related websites everyday. Other unethical practice at workplace is the using of the company owned stationary for personal use. 



We live in a society where both the men and women work together under one roof, so such an environment should be there so that all different genders are comfortable working with each other.Sometimes lack of ethics in a workplace leads to many unethical behaviors among the employees and employers.Such gives rise to touching of opposite gender in inappropriate manner or place. The person makes use of their power for personal satisfaction and ends up landing in problems.Such real life example happening in this era is the starting of the #METOOMOVEMENT.

ME TOO MOVEMENT is a movement started to speak against the sexual harassment and sexual assault.It had come into light when different incidents of assaults with different people came out in public.It had become the attention for millions of people which included many famous personalities.

1. On Jan 8, 2020 a 35 years old man working in the Flex printing department at a college in Coimbatore sexually harassed one of the girl college student.He was accused of touching her inappropriately while offering her to drop her to her home.

2.   On Nov 6,2019  a 38 years old woman employed with Gurugram office of a Chennai based software firm has alleged that she was sexually and mentally harassed by the senior vice president of the firm.

1.If the ethics and morals at workplace would have been strong such incidents would have never occurred.  

2.If the employees and employers knew their limits such accidents would have not come into light.

If we follow or stick by the workplace ethics, this benefits the company and oneself in different ways.The stronger the values and the responsibility of the individual, better will be the performance of the company.It is very important for the managers and business to reflect the changes they want to see in their employees. Employees at all levels are responsible for cultivating ethical work culture.Now a days in order to prevent all these, youngsters are offered compulsory and separate course for business ethics.This would help the corporate world improve by teaching the young minds what is wrong and what is right.
